US-headed CPM Holdings Inc. (CPM), a leading supplier of process equipment and engineered technologies, has announced the acquisition of Germany-headed Innovative Pelleting Solutions GmbH and its high-capacity, direct-drive pellet mill technology invented by Graf Equipment GmbH.
The new technology brings a high-capacity, direct-drive pellet mill capable of processing various biomass feedstocks to the CPM biomass portfolio.
According to CPM, the move demonstrates the company’s “commitment to its customers looking for higher-capacity, more energy-efficient biomass machines.“
We are steadily and systematically expanding our biomass technology portfolio and are well-positioned to supply and service the global biomass market. This direct-drive pellet mill is the only one of its kind in the biomass industry today. Our customers asked for a higher capacity, lower energy pellet mill with a small footprint, and we listened, said Maarten Visser, General Manager of Industrial Solutions at CPM.
Three types of pellet mill solutions
The CPM biomass portfolio now offers a full range of technologies including three types of pellet mill solutions – Direct Drive, Gear Drive, and Belt Drive.
According to CPM, this offers its biomass customers the flexible options needed to plan their optimal processing operation.
The all-new Direct Drive technology is beneficial for several reasons. The force from the pellet mill motor is directly driven to the machine. This reduces the need for other mechanical components thus offering a smaller footprint and simplified maintenance.
Higher torque produces denser pellets. The technology is more sustainable as it lowers the use of grease due to its low vibration and low die speed which also preserves the longevity of machine parts.
