In Japan, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd (JAPEX) has announced that it has commenced the supply of wood pellets for the Ozu Biomass Power plant in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture.
To be operated by Ozu Biomass Power Co., Ltd (OBP) in which JAPEX is one of the stakeholders, the wood pellet shipment to OBP represents the first supply of biomass fuel by JAPEX.
JAPEX is promoting measures related to carbon neutrality, investing in biomass power generation, and working on a biomass fuel supply business as part of this strategy.
Start of commissioning

OBP, for which JAPEX is responsible for the wood pellets supply operation, has decided to begin commissioning works for the 50 MW Ozu Biomass Power plant in April 2024, with commercial operations scheduled to commence this summer.
In conjunction with the commissioning works, the first vessel supplied by JAPEX, loaded with approximately 25,000 tonnes of wood pellets from Vietnam arrived at the Takumi new Pier of the Nagahama Port in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, on March 25, 2024.
Located on about 25,700 square meters of land in the industrial park of Nagahama-area, the approximately 350 GWh per year of electricity will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Co., Inc. (YONDEN T&D) based on the feed-in tariff scheme (FIT) for renewable energy.
New business for JAPEX

Starting with this delivery, JAPEX plans to supply wood pellets to multiple biomass power plants.
Through business supplying third-party certified biomass fuel, JAPEX will continue to contribute to realizing a carbon-neutral society and aim to grow and further enhance corporate as a “comprehensive energy company”.
