AGC Vinythai’s “EPINITY” ISCC PLUS certifified

AGC Vinythai’s “EPINITY” ISCC PLUS certifified
Located on the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Thailand, the facility was commissioned in 2012 by Advanced Biochemical Thailand (ABT). The plant was started with a production capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year and expanded to 120,000 tonnes per year in 2020 making it one of the world’s largest Epichlorohydrin (ECH) production plants that has 100 percent bio-based carbon content from its renewable raw material, vegetable glycerine (photo courtesy AGC Vinythai).

In Thailand, AGC Vinythai Public Company Ltd (AGC Vinythai) has announced that its "EPINITY", a 100 percent bio-based  Epichlorohydrin (ECH), has been certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification system.

Bio-based Epichlorohydrin (ECH) is mainly used as a precursor to epoxy resins, with uses in protective coatings, electronic components, adhesives, and advanced composite materials.

Other applications include paper and water treatment chemicals, mild surfactants in personal care, and fine chemical applications.

ISCC is a multi-stakeholder organization established in 2010 to support the shift towards the circular economy and bioeconomy.

ISCC’s key pillars are no deforestation, traceability throughout the supply chain, feedstock identity, well-defined and third-party verified claims, transparent rules for mass balancing and physical segregation, a multi-stakeholder approach with continuous dialogue and protection of biodiversity, and high carbon stock areas.

Site-specific certification

The ISCC PLUS certification is a voluntary scheme that applies to the bioeconomy and circular economy for food, feed, chemicals, plastics, packaging, textiles, and renewable feedstock derived from a process using renewable energy sources.

The ISCC PLUS certification is site-specific. EPINITY’s production site at Map Ta Phut, Thailand has been certified as producing “Bio-Circular Epichlorohydrin” from “Bio-Circular glycerine” which is classified as wastes/residues of biological origin following ISCC’s categories.

This certified mass-balance approach ensures the sustainability and traceability of the bio-based ECH.

ISCC’s key pillars for sustainability are very much in line with our approach since we started producing bio-based Epichlorohydrin in 2012. We appreciate the rigidity of this certification scheme and are pleased to offer EPINITY with the ISCC PLUS certification from our site in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, said Masayoshi Namba, Business Director, AGC Vinythai.

AGC Vinythai was established following the successful integration between AGC Chemicals (Thailand) Co. Ltd (ACTH) and Vinythai Public Co. Ltd (VNT), on July 1, 2022, with AGC Inc., and PTT Global Chemical Public Co. Ltd as major shareholders.

AGC Vinythai and its subsidiaries produce and supply various products, mainly caustic soda, PVC, and bio-based ECH to a wide range of industries in emerging markets in Asia and worldwide.
